Good Things Grow at Gemstone with Intergenerational Programs
At Gemstone, we too feel the back-to-school sentiment in the air as our ‘intergenerational programs’ continue through the fall season. The opportunity to learn and grow comes to us at any age and through many different teachers. From tots to seniors and every generation in between, residents and students, staff and volunteers, our programs enrich the lives of all who participate and connect in our community of care for seniors.
Intergenerational programs provide the opportunity to grow in many ways:
- in the capacity to connect with other generations
- in making a new friend
- in learning a new skill
- in contributing your knowledge and teaching others – our residents are great teachers!
Spotlight on St. Ann’s Academy – Grade 5 Students
In June, Grade 5 students from St. Ann’s Academy said good-bye to the residents at Gemstone after a whole year of visiting, and developing connections and relationships through activities. At the farewell gathering, they brought homemade table centerpieces and enjoyed a tea party. In October, we welcome a new class of Grade 5 students from St. Ann’s Academy who will also experience opportunities for growth and create lasting relationships as they enjoy reading, games and conversations with residents.
